Last Updated on 30 October 2015 Creativity is a funny thing. Sometimes we think of ground breaking ideas that shrieks ‘increased awareness’. Other times your creative spark may fizzle out faster than a Hanson career. Whether it is writing a blurb or coming up with a concept that has the potential for ‘Loerie Award’ consideration, creativity is paramount. Unfortunately, sometimes our creative well runs dry and we need to utilise methods to replenish that creativity. Here are a few methods to help you find your creativity.
Travel
There is nothing quite like travelling. Apart from the fact that it widens your perspective on the world, breaks you out of your shell and it’s a lot of fun. There is nothing like being exposed to new cultures and people – it will help you restore your creative flow. A new environment is going to give the mind a much needed kick-start. Travel can sometimes be expensive, so perhaps go out and discover another part of your city. Try to interact with other people from other walks of life. Your inspiration will come…
Keep Writing Material On Hand
The thing about creativity is it has a nasty habit of striking in the most inopportune of times. When that in-house idea or in-shower epiphany strikes… make sure you have some paper on hand to capture those thoughts. You should always have some means of documenting a good idea. There is nothing worse than coming up with something good and then forgetting about it.
Creativity Is Enhanced By Exercise
Exercise does more than just promote health and well-being. It actually enables you to bring out those creative thoughts. Studies have indicated that exercise can improve our ability to think in a more creative manner. It is not hard to believe as when we exercise, the body releases endorphins. Endorphins make you feel good. When you are feeling good, it is easier to come up with good ideas.
Know The Game But Don’t Conform
You obviously need to have a good understanding on your industry. But don’t do what everyone else is doing. Garner a good understanding about the do’s and don’ts of your realm, understand trends and rules and then break them whenever there is an opening. Any type of idea that is feasible and unconventional will make you stand out.
Dim The Light
While most people like to work in well lit environment, studies have also showed that exposure to dim lighting can increase creativity. The thinking behind this train of thought is darkness sometimes brings about a feeling of being free from constraints. In addition it triggers an unconventional processing style.
